February 15, 2020 Getting Ahead of the Game For those of you who have hung around my blog for a bit or who know me personally, you know that I come from…
January 25, 2020 Persistence and Patience If you’re anything like me, sometimes patience escapes me. I know it does. I’m not afraid to admit that sometimes, I just want things to happen quickly. Patience has always been something I have worked on, and still do to this day. I know I’m not the only one who has to remind myself to take a deep breath, be patient, but persistent.
November 23, 2019 Growing Pains As it comes to the end of yet another exciting, transformative year, I find myself reflecting. Sometimes, I cringe thinking of some of the things that I did or said this year (don’t we all have some of those moments?), and other times, I find myself smiling with pride, thinking “yeah, I totally got through that”. Truthfully, I love New Years.
September 7, 2019 Raise Your Flag Back in high school, there was a girl, we’ll just call her Melanie. She was a bright student, quiet, shy, but she always did the work that she was supposed to do. She completed tasks, helped her friends, and never said no to people. She was the resident “yes” girl and yes, that got her into trouble. Unfortunately, it didn’t take much to throw Melanie off her A-game. Take her Pre-Calc class for example.
August 31, 2019 What is it REALLY Like Living in Florida? A little more than a year ago, when I first made the decision to move to Florida, I got a lot of the same sorts of questions from people: What are you going to do there? I’m going to work. Why Florida? I went to Florida because honestly, after living in Taiwan and experiencing absolutely not one snowflake of snow in nearly three years, I was not too keen on jumping back into the Chicago frozen tundras again.
June 8, 2019 New Mental Push-Ups It’s Friday, April 26th. My alarm goes off at 4:30 AM, and I rise out of bed rather easily because this isn’t my first time getting up before the sun peaks above the horizon. I throw on my Aldi work t-shirt, a pair of beat up black jeans, and make sure my hair is tied back and I am relatively alert. Then I put on a podcast and go to make breakfast.
April 14, 2019 Kymopoleia’s Assignment This night, like every other, was exactly the same. I stood idly on the edge of the sand, watching the waves as they connected with the shoreline. Each crash comforted me, encouraging me. Don’t leave. Not yet. Another wave lapped upon around my ankles, shooting chills up and down my tired body. More reassurance. It’s nearly time.
February 17, 2019 Taking on Taiwan: It’s Time to Chase By the time you read this, it is long past the new year’s resolutions and the hype fading away from us, even if we try to help it. It’s inevitable: all around the world, whenever December ends and January arrives, people set aside their bad habits, their fears, and they do their best to make new goals, plans, and resolutions. But why is it that we often fail to follow through on what we set out to do?
